He is best known for authoring ''The Mirage'' (Al-Sarab), a book on political Islam in Arab and Muslim societies.〔 In 1995, Hassan II, the late King of Morocco awarded Al-Suwaidi the Legion of Merit (commander degree).〔 On December 17, 2002, former French Minister of Defense Michèle Alliot-Marie awarded him the "Ordre National du Mérite" for his prominent role in strengthening relations between the UAE and France.〔 In 2013, the president of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan awarded him the "Head of State Merit Award".〔〔〔 ==Biography== During his career, Al Suwaidi made significant contributions to building partnerships between the UAE and other countries. In addition to being the current Chairman of the board of directors of the Cancer Patient Care Society (Rahma) of UAE, he is also member of the board of several national and international institutions. These include the Emirates Institute of Diplomacy, Zayed University, the Faculty of Policy and International Affairs at the University of Maine,〔 and the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Georgetown University. In particular, in recognition of his efforts and prominent role in the strengthening of bilateral relations between the UAE and several countries, he received a number of international distinctions.
